Certification requirements

Building a QMS that meets ISO 9001:2015 typically involves a quality policy aligned with your organization's goals; process mapping of your core operations; risk assessment; defined resource management (people, infrastructure, technology); regular monitoring and measurement of process performance; and a culture of continual improvement. Designing, documenting and implementing these elements is your organization's responsibility — done internally or with a consultant of your choosing — and happens before the independent certification audit described below.

How certification works

Stage 1 audit

A documentation and readiness review confirming your QMS is designed to meet ISO 9001:2015 and that you're ready for Stage 2.

Stage 2 audit

An audit of your QMS in operation — assessing conformity against the standard in day-to-day practice, on-site or remote where applicable.

Certification decision

A decision maker independent of the audit team reviews the findings and decides whether to certify, in line with the impartiality requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1.

Annual surveillance and the three-year cycle

Certificates are valid for three years, with annual surveillance audits confirming your QMS continues to meet the standard, and a full recertification audit at the end of the cycle.

Remote and on-site audits

Stage 1, Stage 2 and surveillance audits can be delivered remotely, on-site, or blended, in line with IAF MD 4 guidance. We'll agree the right mix for your sites and scope before scheduling.

Accreditation route

CCI issues ISO 9001 certificates under our IAR-112 accreditation. Where a buyer or tender specifically requires a Global ACI MRA (formerly IAF MLA) signatory accreditation, CCI can coordinate certification through our partner certification body instead — see CCI IAR certification vs. MRA-recognized certification.
