Certification requirements

Designing and implementing your EMS — environmental policy, aspects-and-impacts register, legal register, operational procedures — is your organization's responsibility, done internally or with a consultant of your choosing. This preparation happens before the independent certification audit described below.

How certification works

Stage 1 audit

A documentation and readiness review against ISO 14001:2015.

Stage 2 audit

An audit of your EMS in operation, on-site or remote where applicable.

Certification decision

A decision maker independent of the audit team decides whether to certify, in line with ISO/IEC 17021-1.

Annual surveillance and the three-year cycle

Certificates are valid three years, with annual surveillance audits and a full recertification audit at the end of the cycle.

Remote and on-site audits

Stage 1, Stage 2 and surveillance audits can be delivered remotely, on-site, or blended, per IAF MD 4 guidance — we'll agree the right mix for your sites before scheduling.

Accreditation route

CCI issues ISO 14001 certificates under our IAR-112 accreditation.
